Dolly's Fall Garden - 2014
Actually, I'm still planning my Fall Garden...that is one of the few luxuries of living in the desert - the seasons are all just a bit off-kilter.
My plan is to clear my garden boxes and let them lie fallow this Fall / Winter. I had done so last year but they just weren't up to the task this Spring - all of my plants struggled terribly to grow and fruit.
My Plan:
1. Remove the soil in each garden bed in turn
2. Sift the soil to remove any rocks and / or soil clods. Our natural soil is a caliche which is a hardened cement of calcium carbonate that binds other materials in the soil to form 'soil rocks'.
3. Using a cement mixer, augment the remaining soil with nutrients, potting soil and fertilizer manure
4. Run a new watering system - I want to water from above the planters rather than spray up from the ground
5. Cover the garden beds to keep out stray seed...and wait for the Spring plant !
Separately, I'm going to once again utilize my Topsy Turvy and Upsy Downsy, as well as various plant pots, to grow a few root veggies - Radishes, Onions and Garlic, most likely, tho I'm an considering some others. The smaller pot "plots' will limit what I am able to grow.

Dolly's Great 2014 Tomato Project
I need to call a spade a spade on this one and just admit I dropped the ball. All of my Tomatoes were yummy and I enjoyed growing and consuming varieties I had never before heard of. But, I didn't take any more pics or make any particular notes so I have no more news on that subject. Oh well, time for Fall....
This year, I decided to forgo planting, nurturing and harvesting the 8 Tomato plants and 8 Pepper plants I usually have in my Garden Plots - we are never able to consume, use or give away all of the fruit.
While shopping at a local Saver's, I found a Topsy Turvy and an Upsy-Downsy Tomato Planter and decided to go that route so I could have some produce without all of the work.
